Passionate hacker with awesome C/C++ skills
We are a dynamic security company with a product that is unique to say the least. We're not afraid to say that this is the best work environment any of us has ever had, and it's only getting better- we have technical debates over everything from the design of the Intel instruction set to the structure of very high level languages, we have a whole range of disciplines to tackle, from creative data visualization to AI algorithms, we have a Mortal Kombat II machine, drinks, and flexible hours (although we do expect 110% from everyone in the company, top to bottom). What we hold in common is a passion for ideas & a willingness to try things that sound way too hard to the average engineer.
The job:
1/3rd security research (along with the rest of your team) and 2/3rds software design, implementation and testing. You would be working on a small team of security software engineers. A typical day's work might be, investigating a new form of heap overflow directed against a Windows memory allocator, implementing experimental code to detect exploits directed against this bug, getting coffee with your co-workers and talking about your new discoveries while they talk about theirs (and you struggle to get a word in edgewise), and then maintaining some production code your team has assigned you to be responsible for.
Specific skills we need:
We require a thorough knowledge of C and C++, good knowledge of low level OS concepts, at least some knowledge of x86 assembly, and a good knowledge of low level TCP/IP. If you have some but not all of these skills and we like you, you still definitely have a shot.
*APPLICANTS: Please send your resume, answers & questionnaire to Matt.alling@calvingroups.com & Joe.Abrahams@calvingroups.com.

HELP! Me Hire - professional interviewing & hiring tips
ABOUT
With the current state of the U.S. economy and the corporate trend toward outsourcing, I thought there was no more appropriate time than now and no more appropriate platform than a blog to share my experience as it relates to recruiting and hiring. Specifically, this site is dedicated to advising those on both sides of the hiring table. In my years of recruiting experience, I have found that there are some very simple, yet often overlooked, techniques for consistent success in the interviewing process. Whether you are a hiring manager or interviewee, I hope to give you an insider’s perspective and help you achieve your desired results.
Before we get started, I will give you a little bit of background on my . In 2006 I moved to Los Angeles (yes – for a girl…) and took a job with one of the nation’s largest staffing firms without knowing too much about the industry. Much to my surprise, I loved my job. It was very rewarding assisting people looking for working and those looking to staff quality individuals. Shortly thereafter, I took a position as a Director with a boutique agency, called the Calvin Group (www.calvingroups.com). The job model here is focused much more on developing more intimate business relationships with both candidates and clients; something not common in my line of work. In fact, despite the so-called “recession,” we have had more placements this year than any other. This starts by taking our own advice and focus all of our energy on changing the things that we have the power to change. We advise clients and candidates alike to adopt the same idea. Reading all the negative media attention coverage on how poorly the economy is doing, high unemployment rates and increasing global competition does not do anyone any good. It only keeps them in fear and prevents them from suceeding in the present. The fact is, people are hiring, getting jobs and doing well. I hope that this blog engcourages, prepares and provides you with the keys for immediate success.
